Welcome

Welcome to our proposals for a new solar farm in Ware.

The new solar farm would be developed on a site to the north west of the GSK campus connecting to a proposed ‘buried in the ground’ wired connection to provide GSK with a clean, green energy supply.

The proposals will deliver a range of benefits:

  • Generating up to 24 MWp of renewable energy
  • Reducing reliance on the grid
  • Meeting around 32% of GSK Ware’s energy consumption, equivalent to 6,350 homes
  • Supporting national and local renewable energy targets
  • Community Benefit Fund providing £15,000 per annum for local projects (equating to £600,000 over the lifetime of the solar farm)
  • Supporting national and local renewable energy targets
  • Enhanced biodiversity across the solar farm site, including opportunity for new hedges, upgrading existing hedges, native tree planting, grassland creation, bird and bat boxes, and other biodiversity enhancements
  • Continued agricultural use of the land for sheep grazing, alongside the solar farm
  • Helping East Hertfordshire to meet its July 2023 climate declaration
